SHACHARIT Hebrew | Grades 3-6
Small Group Hebrew
One of the guiding principles of SHACHARIT is providing families with choice and flexibility. Our small group Hebrew program is convenient and enables students to attend at times that work best for them.
To better support learning, participants in Grades 3-6 study Hebrew in small groups of 3-7 students. Groups are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays and Sundays at various times. All small Hebrew groups are offered for ONE hour.
Children in Grades 3-6 begin their Hebrew learning with Hebrew letter and vowel recognition and progress to decoding and learning how to read and chant prayers. Throughout their Hebrew learning experience, kids will learn basic prayer vocabulary, and discover a basic understanding of the structure of Jewish prayer, the meaning of significant prayers and how to pray as a member of the community. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their understanding of God, learn basic Jewish theology and be introduced to prayer chanting and Jewish music. Over their four years of Hebrew learning at Temple Shalom, children will not only be taught the skills needed to participate fully in a Reform tefila (prayer) environment but they will gain confidence and the leadership skills needed to lead prayer in our community!
