    CONFIRMATION CEREMONY WRITING SUBMISSION FORM

    Personal Reflection Instructions

Each Confirmand should submit a written reflection on one of the texts below.  Writings must be received by May 23 in order to be included in the book.  Writings can be uploaded here or sent via email to Marriah Vengroff.
    TEXT #1
While the Israelites are at Sinai, God instructs Moses to ascend the mountain, and be there. This double command is a strange one. Seemingly if you’ve climbed the mountain, then you would be on top of the mountain. Why would God need to directly instruct Moses, “And be there”?
Question: You are standing on top of the mountain receiving your own Torah. What does it mean for you to be there?
    TEXT #2
The Israelites are about to cross over the Jordan and enter the Promised Land. Moses is not going on with them. He ordains Joshua to lead the people out of the Wilderness and to possess the Land. Joshua, using language that Moses and God have also used, instructs the Israelites, “Chazak v’Eimatz, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid. God is with you and will not forsake you.”
Question: Where are you in this text? Are you the Israelites? Are you Joshua? Are you Moses? Look both backward and ahead. What are you proud of having accomplished? What do you wish you had known, that you learned now? What are you looking forward to, in terms of your Jewish, spiritual life?
